Environmental Aspects

Policy [103-1] [103-2]

The Company is committed to maintaining and developing better environmental management in order to realize environmentally sustainable development. The Company and relevant subsidiaries have acquired AMDAL, RKL, RPL, as well as relevant environmental permits in accordance with Law No. 32 of 2009 on Environmental Protection and Management in implementing environmental management practices.

The Company recognizes that the business activities of the Company and subsidiaries generate both direct and indirect impacts and risks to the environment. In the power generation business, for example, there are waste resulting from the power generation processes, including liquid waste in the form of wastewater, solid waste in the form fly ash, bottom ash, and dust from coal stockpiles, as well as exhaust gas emissions. However, all components of waste are constantly monitored and managed by the Company and subsidiaries by strictly observing the quality standards set by the government.

The Company uses real time monitoring system to directly monitor and inspect the quality of sea water, rivers, community wells and liquid waste. Liquid wastes are initially treated in the wastewater treatment plant before being discharged into the river. Solid wastes in the form of fly ash are collected using electrostatic precipitator while bottom ash are captured using a conveyor. Dust originating from coal stockpiles is controlled by spraying water from water truck. Meanwhile, to manage gaseous waste, the Company and relevant subsidiaries use a Continuous Emission Monitoring System that functions to monitor the amount of emissions generated from the power generation activities. This system helps the Company and subsidiaries in ensuring that air quality and exhaust emissions do not exceed the upper limit of quality standards set by the government.

The Company seeks to involve every stakeholder, both in and around the Company’s operational areas, to be active in environmental management activities, e.g. by maintaining cleanliness in and around the Company and subsidiaries’ operational areas.

The Company and subsidiaries did not receive reports of indication of significant environmental violations in 2020.
