PT Borneo Indobara Reinforces Leadership in the Energy Transition Through Mining Equipment Electrification, Advancing Toward Green Mining and Net Zero Emissions

Tanah Bumbu, February 9, 2026 – PT Borneo Indobara (BIB) has officially marked a new chapter in energy transformation within Indonesia’s mining industry through the Ceremonial Electrification and Green Mining Realizationheld at the Kusan Office. This momentum represents a strategic milestone in the company’s journey to accelerate energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and implement integrated sustainable mining practices.

The inauguration, which coincided with BIB’s 20th anniversary, was attended by hundreds of guests from across Indonesia, industry partners, and international representatives from China. Several key stakeholders were also present, including PLN’s Director of Retail and Commerce Adi Priyanto, Chief Mining Inspector of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Ahmad Syauki (virtually), representatives from BMKG, as well as contractors and supporting business partners.

Chairman of the Event Committee and Head of Mining Engineering at BIB, Riadi Simka Pinem, emphasized that mining equipment electrification is part of the company’s long-term transformation to support national energy resilience and independence.

“Since February 7–8, 2026, we have showcased more than 150 electric- and hybrid-based mining units. Today marks the beginning of the massive electrification implementation across all BIB operational lines,” he stated.

BIB Chief Operating Officer (COO) Raden Utoro explained that this initiative is currently one of the largest mining equipment electrification programs in Indonesia. The company targets 25 percent of its fleet to transition to electric power by 2026, increasing to 75 percent by 2028, and achieving Net Zero Emissions within the 2028–2029 period.

“This transformation is not merely a technical step, but a corporate strategy to ensure business sustainability amid global demands for low-carbon industries,” Utoro emphasized.

To support this transition, BIB is strengthening its electrical infrastructure through strategic collaboration with PLN. Currently, a 40 MVA power supply has been integrated into the operational chain and is projected to increase to 200–240 MVA by 2028 in line with the expansion of electric fleet usage. Supply reliability is a crucial factor in maintaining the continuity of cable- and battery-based equipment operations.

PLN Director of Retail and Commerce Adi Priyanto noted that the shift toward electric vehicle (EV) mining trucks represents a concrete manifestation of the national energy transition as well as a rational and visionary business decision.

“The transformation toward EV mining trucks is not merely symbolic, but a strategic step that is efficient and long-term oriented,” he said.

Bonifasius, CEO of PT Golden Energy Mines Tbk, BIB’s parent company, stressed that electrification is a tangible response to global challenges toward a low-carbon economy. “Electrification is a critical foundation to ensure the sustainability of the mining industry in the future,” he stated.

BIB’s move aligns with directives from the President of the Republic of Indonesia to reduce dependence on imported fuel oil, which costs the country hundreds of trillions of rupiah annually. Mining equipment electrification is seen as a strategic solution to lower national fuel consumption while improving operational cost efficiency.

In addition to fleet electrification, BIB introduced supporting technological innovations, including drone-based weather modification in collaboration with BMKG to manage rainfall patterns in operational areas. BMKG’s Director of Weather Modification Operations, Budi Harsono, stated that BIB has the potential to become the first coal mining company to implement systematic and integrated weather modification operations.

Another innovation is the adoption of Weigh in Motion (WIM) technology, which enables trucks to be weighed accurately without stopping, thereby improving time efficiency and operational productivity.

This transformation has also received strong support from business partners. PT Anugrah Energi Kalimantan, one of BIB’s contractors, revealed that around 20 percent of its fleet has already transitioned to electric power and has demonstrated significant long-term efficiency gains.

Beyond its technical and environmental impact, the initiative has also stimulated the local economy. A total of 26 MSMEs from 22 mining-ring villages were involved in providing catering for more than 2,000 guests during the event series, reflecting the company’s commitment to empowering surrounding communities.

Through this program, BIB reaffirms its vision toward Sustainable Green Mining – Illuminating the World, while strengthening its position as a pioneer of sustainable mining in Indonesia that is adaptive to global challenges and the future energy transition agenda.
